Complete Turkesterone guide:
Turkesterone is a natural health and fitness supplement that has been gaining a lot of attention lately in the bodybuilding community.
Some users have reported accelerated muscle growth without any side effects, boosting testosterone production and building muscle faster and leaner.
But is there any evidence to back up these claims and what exactly is this supplement?
This article provides a complete overview and user guide on Turkesterone.
What is Turkesterone?
Turkesterone belongs to a family of compounds known as ecdysteroids (anabolic compounds commonly found in species of plants, arthropods, fungi and notably rich in quinoa, spinach and chestnuts). In plants these groups of compounds are used to deter predators and in insects they can help to regulate processes such as moulting and metamorphosis or general development in the insect.
Turkesterone is one of the primary bioactive compounds that is found naturally occurring in the Ajuga Turkestanica plant species (native to central asia). This plant species has a long historical use for traditional medicine for its anabolic, adaptogenic, hepatoprotective and hypoglycemic uses.
In Uzbekistan and Tadzhikistan the plant has been valued for its beneficial effects on muscle strength and stomach aches.
How it works:
Turkesterone’s molecular structure and anabolic activity are very similar to that of testosterone. In other words, this supplement has a similar effect on the body as pure testosterone dose, which is why it’s being hyped up as one of the most anabolic supplements within the market at the moment.
This and the fact that this supplement is unique, anabolic steroids bind to the androgen receptors giving you nasty side effects - meaning you can get similar muscle growth effects of steroids without the downside (though it’s not as potent as some steroids, similar to SARMS)
Turkesterone helps to trigger a few reactions within the muscle tissues, which helps to enhance the translation process of mRNA, which is a vital step within protein synthesis.
It stimulates the uptake of amino acids within the muscle cells, for example, leucine. Leucine is an amino acid that is required for protein muscle synthesis, and an uptake in this amino acid causes a greater biosynthesis in muscle protien.
Turkesterone also generates more metabolites in the muscles, such as creatine phosphate and ATP content, which will help athletes improve endurance during a workout, by increasing their body’s energy stores.
There is also evidence to suggest that Turkesterone helps balance the nitrogen content within the body. What this means is that that there is reduced catabolism (preventing muscle breakdown). Resulting in nitrogen retention into the muscle, which makes it easier to retain muscle mass during a cut and can aid in burning fat making it a very useful tool for cutting.
Research suggests that Turkesterones major anabolic effects are produced by regulating a stable balance in the secretion of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands. These three glands separately produce hormones that help regulate our blood pressure, immune system, vision, growth, mood and more.
By bringing these three glands in harmony, Turkesterone allows the user to add increases to their muscle mass, enhance recovery and improve their workloads.
What are the benefits of Turkesterone?
Enhance muscle repair and growth
By optimising the mRNA translation process and promoting leucine uptake into the muscle cells there is an increase in muscle protein synthesis, due to this, there is a positive nitrogen balance which also prevents muscle breakdown.
Reduce fatigue during workouts.
Turkesterone stimulates the increase in ATP production within the muscle cells in a similar way to creatine.
ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), is a molecule that our body uses for storing and transferring energy between cells, which make it so critical for endurance and strength when training.
Due to the larger amount being produced you can expect to see a greater increase in your strength and endurance in your workouts.
Improve your body’s response to stress
Cortisol, the main stress hormone produced in our bodies, has a ton of health detriments such as decreased muscle mass, increased fat mass, lower quality sleep and much more. In fact, cortisol is probably the worst single hormone that a bodybuilder could have (in excess).
Turkeseterone can reduce the cortisol levels in your body, by decreasing your stress sensitivity by regulating the adrenal gland. This will not only increase your physical health but your mental health too.
No need for post cycle therapy (PCT)
Many substances that increases your performance within the gym, that apply anabolic effects on your body will require post cycle therapy (PCT). This is because these substances will lower your body ability to naturally produce testosterone. So when you stop taking the substance you use PCT to get things back to the natural level.
Turkesterone however does not require a post cycle therapy. This is because turkesterone does not amplify testosterone levels, therefore no suppression occurs following turkesterone usage, which eliminates the risk of side effects and promotes muscle gain retention.
Is Turkesterone safe?
With the current studies available on turkesterone there have been no side effects that have been noticed to warrant any serious concern. The main known issue with ecdysteroids is that they are easily metabolised in the body so larger amounts may be needed.
There are no serious side effects reported on Turkesterone use and few if any published toxicology studies. However, ecdysterone another commonly used ecdysteroid has a proposed lethal dose in mice of 6.4g-9g/kg of body weight depending on the method of administration. The issue with ecdysteroids is that they are actually very easily metabolised in the body and thus it is thought that a large amount is required to offer the benefits mentioned above. Interestingly, low doses of around 0.02 ug/kg of body weight in animals have been shown to offer beneficial effects. Therefore more studies & time may be required to ascertain the safety of Turkesterone.
It is also important to note that taking Turkesterone on an empty stomach can cause nausea, a common side effect of capsulated supplements.
How much Turkesterone should I take?
There are no current dosing recommendations for Turkesterone as it is such a new supplement to hit the market. The general consensus has it that 600mg - 1000mg of Turkestone a day is the sweet spot.
The minimum recommended amount to see any meaningful difference is 2 capsules a day (do not consume on an empty stomach). But there is anecdotal evidence that doubling this to 4 or even 6 a day can greatly increase the results.
When taking 4 a day it’s best to split the dosage up if possible. 2 in the morning, and 2 in the evening.
There is little scientific consensus on dosing for Turkesterone nor are there recommendations for ingredient timing. It is best therefore to be cautious with your dosages and keep them at a level of under 10mg/kg of body weight daily. In fact, one study which used ecdysterone on resistance-trained males only used a supplement containing 30mg consumed once per day in the morning. Some manufacturers of Turkesterone viewed are recommending 600mg to 1000mg of pure Turkesterone daily.
Turkesterone cycle
To attain the muscle-building benefits from turkesterone its is common for users to run an 8-12 weeks cycle. However as this supplement is not androgenic and doesn’t cause any suppression, you can run it indefinitely. Although we do advise an 8-12 week cycle. No PCT is required.
